A recent survey by Swissveg found that plant-based milk alternatives in Swiss shops have reached price parity with animal-based options. However, there are still significant price differences when it comes to yoghurt and cheese alternatives. The survey compared the cheapest products in the categories of milk, yoghurt, sliced cheese, and cream cheese at Coop, Migros, Lidl, and Aldi Suisse, without considering short-term promotions to ensure a fair comparison.

While plant-based milk prices have become comparable to their animal-based counterparts, cheese alternatives still come at a premium. Lidl and Aldi were found to offer the cheapest plant-based shopping baskets, while Coop and Migros had higher prices due to differences in private-label strategies and cheese alternative offerings. Swissveg emphasizes that plant-based products also contribute to environmental protection and animal welfare, and predicts that with rising demand and technological advancements, production costs will continue to decrease, narrowing the price gap further.
