LA’s First Vegan Food Bank Tackles Local Food Insecurities

VegOut Magazine • Aug 18, 2022
Gwenna Hunter, the founder of Vegans of LA, has launched the city's first vegan food bank in response to the food insecurities faced by many individuals in Los Angeles. Black and Brown communities, in particular, experience food apartheid due to the lack of access to fresh produce and healthy plant-based options. By providing fruits, vegetables, grains, and vegan products to those in need, the food bank aims to empower communities with new food choices and create a more sustainable world.

Partnering with Hope on Union Food Bank and various vegan brands, the vegan food bank has already made a significant impact by feeding up to 500 people at each distribution event. Moving forward, Vegans of LA plans to expand its reach to colleges and universities in Southern California to raise awareness about food inequities and improve access to nutritious plant-based foods. Those interested in supporting this initiative can donate, volunteer, or get involved through Vegans of LA's Instagram page.
